Spatial transmission of price promotion for German beer retailers

The existing literature has extensively discussed the role of retail promotions, while spatial effects promotions are poorly understood. Using panel data weekly promotional prices from German beer retailers during period 2000–12, we examine based on estimations. Results show significantly positive price indicating that neighbouring retailers’ boost each other. We further find significant heterogeneity across market power, peak demand and consumer loyalty. In addition, largely retaliation to competitors’ promotions.
